Joy Picture 1

Where are you from?

I was born in Nigeria but am now I’m based in the United Kingdom.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live?

It would be Dubai. I love everything about the country - from the glamour, the adventure, the food, the sunsets to the fashion. As they say, all that glitters in gold in Dubai (sometime literally). It's simply fabulous; there is so much to do! The people have such a great spirit and "can do" attitude. Just take a look at images from 20 years ago and today, where skyscrapers now stand you there once was only sand. The word ‘cannot’ doesn’t appear to exist in this city’s dictionary.

What is the best part about being a makeup artist?

The people and the fulfilment that comes from creating a look for someone that gives them joy and confidence. And then watching people fall in love with the makeup look you create for them. Makeup is such a beautiful art.

What’s your favourite thing to do in your free time?

I’m obsessed with Rupaul’s drag race. It is my guilty pleasure. I’ve watched all the series including All Star. I’m starting them all over again as we speak!

What is the beauty product you can’t leave the house without?

It's simple but I can't live without a good lip balm. I'm always running around doing makeup for others so I keep my daily routine simple. My favourite lip balm is the Bobbi Brown lip balm.

Advice for Makeup Artist.

You have to decide and think, is this really the road or path you want to take? Trust me, it is not as glamorous as it appears. There is a lot of criticism and rejections in makeup industry. If you have a genuine passion for makeup, then go for it but know you have to be hardworking, humble, do a lot of research, network with people, be respectful and friendly.
